MEMORIAL CENTER BRINGS EXHIBITION ON SERB SUFFERING TO CHICAGO

CHICAGO, SEPTEMBER 28 /SRNA/ - The Republika Srpska Memorial Center arranged for an exhibition on the suffering of Serbs to be displayed in Chicago on truck-mounted billboards outside the entrance to the city's Serbian Orthodox cathedral.

Memorial Center Director Denis Bojić said the exhibition had been presented in Chicago after New York, Vienna, Rome and, perhaps most importantly so far, the US Congress in Washington.

"This is especially significant considering the large Serbian community living here, as well as Chicago itself, one of the world's major cities", Bojić said.

Marko Nikolić, Serbia's Consul General in Chicago, said the Consulate General would forward the information, platform and brochure to all of its partners.

Rajko Draganić said he was pleased that the exhibition could also be seen in Chicago so that people could learn that Serbs had also suffered during the Patriotic War.

The information attracted particular attention among younger members of the local Serbian community. One of them, Vasilija Radovanović, said it was important for children in the diaspora, as well as others, to know about the suffering of Serbs.

"There are many Americans and people in the United States who do not even know where Serbia is or what suffering our people went through", Radovanović said.

A priest who has served in Chicago for more than 20 years said he had met many victims who had endured camps and torture and had lost numerous family members, RTS reported.

"I know it means a great deal to them that someone remembers and keeps it from being forgotten", said Father Darko Spasojević, head priest of the Serbian Orthodox cathedral in Chicago.
