BANJA LUKA, JUNE 15 /SRNA/ - The marking of the defence of Sarajevo-Romanija Serbs between 1992 and 1995 will be held tomorrow in Sokolac and on Ravna Romanija.
A memorial service will be held for the fallen soldiers of the Defensive-Patriotic War of Republika Srpska at the Novi Zejtinlik Military Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Cross at 11:15 a.m., according to the Ministry of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons Protection.
In the Monastery of Saint George the Victorious on Ravna Romanija, a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. for the fallen soldiers of the Sarajevo-Romanija region, followed by officials addtress and a cultural programme at 12:15 p.m.
This historical event of republic-wide significance is organised by the Republika Srpska Government’s Committee nurturing tradition of liberation wars.
Nebojša Vidaković, Assistant Minister of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons Protection of Republika Srpska, previously stated that June 16 is one of the most important dates in recent Serb history, honoring 3,852 soldiers of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps of the Republika Srpska Army and 200 members of the Ministry of Interior who gave their lives for freedom and Republika Srpska.
"This was one of the decisive battles for preserving the borders of Republika Srpska, and it will never be forgotten," emphasized Vidaković.
According to him, in fierce battles, Serb forces repelled and broke more than 35 enemy offensives launched by units of the so-called Army of BiH against the positions held by the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps.
