BANJA LUKA, JANUARY 8 /SRNA/ - Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut stated at the ceremonial reception on the occasion of Republic Day in Banja Luka that, in accordance with special and parallel ties, cooperation will continue in the fields of science, culture, and education, as well as in the implementation of infrastructure projects between Serbia and Republika Srpska.
He wished everyone in Republika Srpska a happy Republic Day and emphasized that it is his pleasure, as Prime Minister, to lead a high-level Serbian delegation, which, together with the ministers, represents a symbol of the lasting connection between Republika Srpska and Serbia.
He emphasized that this is a special moment for him, given that his origins are from this region, specifically Drvar.
“This shows that the Serbs have been and remain a present community in this area,” Macut stated.
He reflected on the importance of special and parallel ties, stressing that they will be further strengthened. “We invite Republika Srpska to respond to our calls so that we can jointly build our mutual relations,” Macut emphasized.
He wished for Republic Day in Republika Srpska to be celebrated with joy and in recognition of the achievements made.
January 9 is celebrated as the Day of Republika Srpska, which on that date in 1992 was established under its original name, the Republic of the Serb People in BiH.
Republika Srpska was founded by Serb members of the then Parliament of BiH after they were outvoted on key issues concerning the survival of Yugoslavia, while members of the other two peoples proceeded with secession against the will of the Serbs, who held the status of a constituent people.
The name the Republic of the Serb People in BiH was in use until February 28, 1992, when the first Constitution was proclaimed, and it was replaced by the Serb Republic of BiH, which remained in use until August 12, 1992, when it was changed to the Serb Republic.
That name was replaced in September 1992 with the current one - Republika Srpska.
