KRALJEVIĆ: DRAGASEVAC IN DANGER OF INFECTION DUE TO LANDFILL

VLASENICA, APRIL 1 /SRNA/ - The waste disposal site in Dragasevac near Vlasenica threatens to endanger households and cause a large-scale environmental disaster, said the mayor of the municipality, Miroslav Kraljević, and emphasized that all resources must be involved in solving this problem.

Kraljević told journalists that torrential streams passed through the landfill and carried away about a hundred truckloads of garbage, and with new precipitation comes new capping.

He added that the primary goal is to divert the two rivers that pass through the landfill, for which people from the construction and hydro professions have been engaged to evaluate the investment, which he says is huge.

There is a local utility company on the ground that solves the problems, and Kraljević invited companies, enterprises, institutions and everyone who can help to get involved, while he also expects the support of the republic's institutions.

Kraljević mentioned that large amounts of precipitation threatened certain parts of the municipality, where a state of emergency was declared in some, and reminded that the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute announced that the highest amount of precipitation, about 155 liters per square meter, was in the area of ​​Vlasenica.

He pointed out that this caused huge torrents and landslides in the area of ​​Dragasevac.

The Acting Chief Republic Inspector for Protection and Rescue in the Republic Administration of Civil Protection, Davor Šandara, told reporters that torrential streams passed through the landfill and brought a huge amount of waste into the river basin, and that they threaten to endanger the health and lives of the population.

Šandara emphasized that in accordance with his capacities and possibilities, he will provide the necessary assistance to the municipality of Vlasenica.

Local resident Svjetlana Stevanović told reporters that the landfill is located above her house, that she is afraid of infection, and she appealed for help to solve this problem.
