KARAN: SERBIAN TRICOLOUR IS SYMBOL OF OUR CONTINUITY

BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 14 /SRNA/ - The Serbian tricolour is a symbol of our historical continuity; in it, we recognise victories and suffering, uprisings and liberation, the fight against fascism and Nazism, as well as the generations who safeguarded the Serbian people’s right to their name, identity and freedom, Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan told SRNA.

“By jointly marking the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag, Republika Srpska and the Republic of Serbia affirm what our Serbian people have demonstrated many times throughout their long and often tragic history: that unity and freedom are the conditions of our survival, the foundation of our statehood and a pledge to the generations who paid the highest price for the right to be who we are on our own land,” Karan stressed.

On the occasion of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag, Karan told SRNA that wherever Serbs live, they belong to the same people and have a duty to preserve their identity and spiritual values and pass them on to future generations.

“It is particularly significant that, thanks to the political resolve of Presidents Milorad Dodik and Aleksandar Vučić, Republika Srpska and Serbia have in recent years established a practice of jointly marking dates of the greatest national and historical importance to the Serbian people.

“By doing so, we have shown that our shared memory does not depend on where we live, because we belong to the same people, share the same history and have a duty to pass on the culture of remembrance to generations to come,” Karan stressed.

He said that strengthening the institutional and all other ties between Republika Srpska and Serbia was of exceptional importance.

Karan said that the policies of Presidents Milorad Dodik and Aleksandar Vučić have elevated relations between Republika Srpska and Serbia to the highest level, ensuring that, thanks to these policies, support from Serbia reaches all municipalities and cities in Republika Srpska, as well as local communities in the Federation of BiH where Serbs make up the majority of the population.

He stressed that Republika Srpska and Serbia continue to strengthen their ties through roads and bridges, the economy and investment, schools and universities, culture and science.

He said that this idea has also found its contemporary political expression in the Declaration on the Protection of the National and Political Rights and the Shared Future of the Serbian People, adopted at the All-Serb Assembly.

“For the Serbian people, freedom has never been something to be taken for granted. Throughout history, we have defended it many times, and that is why every generation has a duty to preserve it. In this sense, preserving Republika Srpska represents our lasting political and historical responsibility. This closeness is our natural right, which we safeguard every day through institutional cooperation, education, culture and caring for one another,” Karan said.

Let the Serbian tricolour fly proudly in Republika Srpska, Serbia, and wherever our people live, as a symbol of our continuity, freedom, dignity and belonging!

“Let it remind us of those who carried it before us, but even more so, let it remind us of our duty to future generations. Happy Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag!” Karan said.
