BANJA LUKA, JUNE 29 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan stated that Republika Srpska has the right to engage internationally, which is why there was a need to establish an Office for International Cooperation to deal with matters provided for under the Constitutions of BiH and Republika Srpska.
"Republika Srpska has a limited international legal capacity, and that is why such an office is needed to operate at the international level. There is often an impression that Republika Srpska is doing something it has no right to do, when in fact it does have that right," Karan told reporters in Banja Luka.
Karan stated that the special ties Republika Srpska maintains with Serbia are comparable to arrangements that exist elsewhere and that Republika Srpska, as a federal entity, has the authority to conclude international agreements.
"There are many such examples. Everything is constitutional and lawful and nothing more than that," Karan stressed.
