KARAN: PLAVŠIĆ CONTRIBUTED TO BUILDING SRPSKA AND ITS INSTITUTIONS

BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 1 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan said in a statement to SRNA that the death of Biljana Plavšić marks the passing of one of the key figures who shaped the creation of Republika Srpska and the establishment of its institutions.

Karan said Republika Srpska represents a framework of freedom, security and political identity for the Serb people, enabling them to preserve their identity, name, language, culture and tradition on their ancestral lands.

"That is why a special place in our historical memory belongs to the generation that took responsibility for its future at decisive moments, and Biljana Plavšić was an important part of that generation," Karan said.

He said that, while holding the highest public offices, including that of president during one of the most difficult periods, Plavšić made a personal contribution to the creation of Srpska and the building of its institutional system, dedicating a significant part of her life to that work.

"Her political engagement and the role she played in the modern history of our people will remain part of our lasting memory. May she rest in peace," the Republika Srpska President said.

Former Republika Srpska president Biljana Plavšić died in Belgrade this morning at the age of 95.
