KARADŽIĆ ACCUSED OF PLANNING TO ESCAPE FROM BRITISH PRISON

PALE, APRIL 10 /SRNA/ - The first president of Republika Srpska Radovan Karadžić is suffering new pressures in a British prison, he is accused of planning an escape and his contact with his family has been cut off, his daughter Sonja Karadžić-Jovičević confirmed.

"After two days without any contact, we just found out that Radovan was exposed to additional torture and mistreatment after, imagine, he was accused of planning to escape from prison. So, an 80-year-old man, who is being exhausted by inadequate treatment, has a plan to escape from an island in the English Channel - La Manche," Karadžić-Jovičević said.

She told Glas Srpske that because of such accusations, Karadžić's prison regime was tightened, as a result of which he was denied health care and food.

"Because of that construction, they don't give him medicine, he is denied food and calls to his family. Several times a day, several guards move him from building to building without explanation," Karadžić-Jovičević said.

The escape scenario, she says, carries a huge danger that such minds can stage an alleged escape attempt with the aim of liquidating him on that occasion.

At the end of January, Jovičević said that her father suffered terrible pain in prison, which increasingly led him to a semi-conscious and unconscious state, and that the administration and medical staff of the Albany prison refused to provide him with proper medical care, which she called an attempted murder.

In February, Karadžić was transferred to the ambulatory part of the prison, where he received medical assistance, and in early March it was confirmed that he was feeling better.

Since May 2021, Karadžić has been placed in Albany Prison on the Isle of Wight, where he is serving a life sentence after being convicted at the Hague Tribunal.
