BANJA LUKA, September 8 /SRNA/ - The truth about the 1995 NATO bombing of Republika Srpska with depleted uranium is of national importance for Srpska, given that it left lasting consequences on soil, water, food, as well as plant and animal life, professor at the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Banjaluka Marijana Kapović-Solomun told SRNA.

She stated that the half-life of depleted uranium is ten times longer than the average human lifespan, meaning the consequences will be felt for a very long time.

"This is confirmed by the number of cancer patients in both Srpska and the Federation of BiH, which has increased several times over the past 30 years," Kapović-Solomun said, adding that Serb residents of the municipality of Hadžići, which was bombed by NATO, have "filled" cemeteries in Bratunac.

Kapović-Solomun emphasized that NATO's bombing of Republika Srpska has been concealed from public view in scientific terms, pointing out that representatives of the countries which took part in the bombing immediately react at international conferences whenever this issue is raised.

She stressed the necessity of a scientific conference at which the Serb people would once again draw attention to how they suffered and were subjected to aggression 30 years ago, the consequences of which are still being felt today.
