ZVORNIK, JUNE 14 /SRNA/ - The 33rd anniversary of the formation of the Zvornik Brigade, which was part of the Drina Corps of the Republika Srpska Army, was marked today in Zvornik. on the occasion of which it was emphasized that the brigade had an impressive war path that was not limited only to the Podrinje front.
Head of the Zvornik City War Veterans Organisation, Milivoje Todorović, stated that the Zvornik Brigade had 538 fallen soldiers, 32 missing, and 1,800 wounded, 1,100 of whom suffer permanent disabilities.
Todorović emphasized that freedom came at a high price and that a culture of remembrance must be maintained toward all who created and died for Republika Srpska.
Head of the Republika Srpska War Veterans Organisation, Radan Ostojić, said the Zvornik Brigade primarily operated on the Podrinje front, but its members were sent to nearly every battlefield across Republika Srpska and achieved successes.
Ostojić noted that the brigade’s war path was one of unity, sacrifice, suffering, but also glory and heroism, and that every member honoured the legacy of their ancestors and proudly carried the name of Republika Srpska, regardless of where they fought.
According to him, they gathered in Zvornik today to pay tribute to the greatest heroes who gave their lives for the freedom the Serb people enjoy today.
"It is our duty to thank all members of the Republika Srpska Army, who, during the Defensive-Patriotic War, defended Srpska and secured the freedom we have today - Republika Srpska as an eternal achievement," Ostojić told the press.
A memorial service was held today in Zvornik and wreaths were laid at the memorial to the 1,080 fallen soldiers of the Defensive-Patriotic War.
The service was conducted by local clergy, and wreaths were laid by the families of fallen soldiers, representatives of the city, the Republika Srpska War Veterans Organisation, the Zvornik Brigade, the Third Infantry Republika Srpska Regiment, police, and organisations emerging from the war.
The Zvornik Brigade was decorated for its war merits with the Orders of Petar Mrkonjić and Miloš Obilić, the Karađorđe Star, and medals for bravery awarded to distinguished battalion commanders, company and platoon leaders, and soldiers.
