PALE, JUNE 19 /SRNA/ - The Minister of the Interior of Republika Srpska, Željko Budimir, said that the Ministry of the Interior acts within its mandate and instructed the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of BiH /IDDEEA/ to do the same.

Referring to the decision of the BiH Personal Data Protection Agency to permanently prohibit IDDEEA from processing personal data for the purpose of issuing electronic certificates for electronic signatures, Budimir said this was a classic attempt by IDDEEA Director Almir Badnjević to abuse his position.

“We pointed this out from the very beginning. That is why they tried to steal our jurisdictions,” Budimir told reporters in Pale.

He reiterated that IDDEEA will not take over any of the jurisdictions of the Ministry of the Interior, nor, more generally, the jurisdictions of Republika Srpska.

Budimir says that the decision of the Personal Data Protection Agency will not affect the issuance of documents.

“The job of IDDEEA is to print documents, and we are doing our job, and that has not been in question all these years, until the moment when someone, through digitalization and electronic signature, tried to attack the electronic sovereignty of the institutions of Republika Srpska,” Budimir said.

The Personal Data Protection Agency of BiH has permanently prohibited IDDEEA from processing personal data for the purpose of issuing qualified electronic certificates for electronic signatures, except in procedures related to digital signing in the area of identity documents.

In addition, the Indirect Taxation Authority has also been permanently prohibited from processing personal data for this purpose.
