GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES NEARLY BAM 2 MILLION FOR RENOVATION OF TWO SCHOOLS

NEVESINJE, AUGUST 15 /SRNA/ – Schools in Nevesinje are ready for the new school year, with work on the building of "Risto Proroković" Primary School completed, while major renovation of the "Aleksa Šantić" Secondary School Centre will begin on Monday, August 17, with Republika Srpska Government allocating BAM 1.7 million from the budget for the project.

Republika Srpska Minister of Education and Culture Borivoje Golubović said during today’s visit to Nevesinje that the value of the works at the primary school was around BAM 150,000.

"The windows have been replaced and interior works have been carried out. The school will be ready for the start of the school year," Golubović said, noting that work on the renovation of the Nevesinje school began three months ago.

He said he was pleased that the renovation of the Nevesinje Secondary School Centre was about to begin, with the Republika Srpska Government allocating BAM 1.7 million and the municipality responsible for the overall project.

"Together, and for the benefit of Nevesinje, all its citizens and students, we are starting the works. They will be carried out in phases, while classes will be reorganized into two shifts. The educational process will not be disrupted," Golubović said.

He added that textbooks had also been delivered to Nevesinje and that everything was ready for the beginning of the new school year.

Nevesinje Mayor Milenko Avdalović said that almost all work at the main "Risto Proroković" Primary School had been completed, with nearly BAM 140,000 provided by the Republika Srpska Government and around BAM 30,000 from the municipal budget spent on the project.

As for the two secondary-school buildings, he said that this year the focus was on the grammar school building, whose renovation is demanding and extensive.

"The contractor has been selected, the contract was signed yesterday, and the works will begin on Monday," Avdalović said.

He added that the Machine Engineering School would not be renovated this year because classes would continue to be held there.

"We decided to carry out preventive repairs of the sanitary facilities. BAM 40,000 had been planned, but the cost will reach BAM 62,000. We have to complete the work; the contract has already been signed, and we hope the works will be completed by the start of the school year," Avdalović said.

"Risto Proroković" Primary School Principal Miljan Avdalović expressed satisfaction that all the works had been completed before the start of the school year.

"We are also pleased that we secured funds to renovate the sanitary facilities in five regional schools in Nevesinje. We are ready for the new school year, and I hope we will continue improving our schools. Our goal is to fence the school grounds, and that will be one of our next projects," Avdalović said.

"Aleksa Šantić" Secondary School Centre Principal Dragana Budalić said that work on the grammar school building would begin on Monday, adding that it had also been decided that classes would be held in two shifts during the coming school year.

She explained that the project involved renovating the sanitary facilities in the old building and that funding for video surveillance had been secured through a municipal budget rebalancing.

She thanked the Republika Srpska Government for its continued investment in education, as well as the minister for always being available when assistance is needed.

Republika Srpska National Assembly member Ilija Tamindžija said that approximately BAM 2 million would be invested in education in Nevesinje this year.

"Significant funds have previously been invested in the Music School, where a complete renovation was carried out. We can now say with certainty that all three schools will soon be renovated, to the satisfaction of all citizens," Tamindžija said.
