BANJA LUKA, NOVEMBER 13 /SRNA/ – The Minister for Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska, Petar Đokić, has stated that the goal of today’s thematic session of the Government of Republika Srpska, dedicated to the situation in "Elektroprivreda", is to ensure a stable power system that will provide citizens with a sufficient supply of electricity.
He said that the conclusion of the session was that all those involved in the system must change the way they work.
"All companies are required to prepare plans and measures for reorganization within 15 days and submit them to the Ministry and the Government", Đokić said.
Đokić noted that the situation in the regional energy sector has changed over the past ten years, mainly due to directives adopted by the EU.
"Major shifts have taken place. The principle has been established that all activities must be directed toward the process of decarbonization", Đokić said.
He added that Republika Srpska has also accepted this approach and adopted several laws in the field of energy.
"After the war between Russia and Ukraine, the energy landscape and relations across Europe changed significantly", Đokić said at a press conference in Banja Luka.
This, he added, created serious disruptions that also affected Republika Srpska.
"In 2022, we faced difficulties with the operation of the Ugljevik Thermal Power Plant, which suffered several breakdowns, 31 in total, forcing us to purchase replacement electricity", Đokić said, explaining that the costs of such energy purchases were extremely high.
He also pointed out that the poor hydrological situation that year had a significant impact.
"This greatly affected the situation in the parent company", Đokić said following the Government session.
