GAGKUJEV: STRICT ADHERENCE TO DAYTON AGREEMENT NECESSARY FOR PEACE IN REGION

ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, NOVEMBER 14 /SRNA/ – The Chairman of the Board of the Russian Historical Society Ruslan Gagkujev stated this evening in Istočno Sarajevo that the official position of the Russian Federation is that strict adherence to the Dayton Peace Agreement is essential for preserving peace in the region.

"Regardless of various attempts by NATO member states to revise the Dayton Agreement or abolish it in some way, the official position of the Russian Federation is that we must strictly adhere to this foundation in order to maintain peace in the region," Gagkujev told reporters ahead of the opening of the international scientific conference "30 Years of the Dayton Peace Agreement: Lessons of the Past and Challenges of the Present."

He said that a large historical community from Republika Srpska, Serbia, and the Russian Federation has gathered at this conference to analyze the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and draw certain conclusions.

"Compromise has no alternative, because without it, neither the state nor peaceful life can be preserved," emphasized Gagkujev, who is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education.

The international scientific conference “30 Years of the Dayton Peace Agreement: Lessons of the Past and Challenges of the Present” was opened in Istočno Sarajevo, organized by the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University in this city.
