BANJA LUKA, AUGUST 20 /SRNA/ - Filming has wrapped on "Sretenje," a new film by director Predrag Gaga Antonijević about Karađorđe Petrović and Miloš Obrenović, two of the most significant figures in the creation and development of the modern Serbian state.

Nenad Jezdić stars as Karađorđe Petrović and Vuk Jovanović as Miloš Obrenović. Other major roles are played by Mladen Sovilj as Vujica Vulićević, Željko Erkić as Stanoje Glavaš, as well as Nikola Pejaković, Denis Murić, Ivana Nikolić and Lara Dragović.

The final scene was filmed after three months of production at locations across Serbia. The premiere is planned for 2027, according to a statement from M:tel.

The film is produced by M and Dandelion Production, with Film Danas serving as executive producer.

Set between the outbreak of the First Serbian Uprising and the tragedy in Radovanjski Lug, the film follows the historical and personal journeys of two sworn brothers whose differing visions of freedom, struggle and statehood shaped Serbia's destiny.

"Through major historical events as well as intimate human dilemmas, `Sretenje` raises questions of sacrifice, responsibility, betrayal and national unity, offering a contemporary interpretation of one of the most important periods in Serbian history," M:tel stated.

Director Antonijević stressed that "Sretenje" is not a film about divisions, but about understanding history and the people who shaped it.

"This film does not portray only two historical heroes, but two approaches to creating freedom and a state. Karađorđe and Miloš were not adversaries, but men who, each in his own way, contributed to the same goal," Antonijević stated.

He added that the film seeks to show that Karađorđe was also a great diplomat, while Miloš was an exceptionally courageous man, and that neither lacked qualities of statesmanship.

"The most important thing is to understand that divisions do not bring happiness and that common goals are what sustain a people throughout history," Antonijević said.

Commenting on the completion of filming, M:tel Director-General Jelena Trivan highlighted the importance of investing in domestic audiovisual production and projects that preserve cultural and historical heritage.

"It is well known that Telekom Srbija, together with the Serbian Film Centre, has made a major contribution to the development of domestic cinema and restored Serbian film to the place it deserves. Telekom Srbija is now the largest producer of audiovisual content in this part of Europe, enabling our creators and their stories to reach audiences around the world," Trivan stressed.

She added that M:tel had no ambition to engage in film production except in exceptional cases involving subjects of particular national, historical and cultural significance.

"That is precisely why we decided to support `Sretenje,` as well as several projects by authors from Republika Srpska dealing with important historical events from our more recent past," Trivan said.

The film crew now faces the demanding post-production phase, after which audiences will have an opportunity to see a cinematic spectacle bringing to life, in striking fashion, the events and figures that were crucial to the emergence of the modern Serbian state.
