FAMILIES OF THOSE KILLED IN CROATIAN AGGRESSION LIVE WITH GRIEF AND INJUSTICE

NOVI GRAD, SEPTEMBER 18 /SRNA/ - Dragutin Vukojević, whose two minor sons and wife were killed on this day in 1995 in an attack by the Croatian Army on the Tunjica settlement near Novi Grad, said that he lives alone with grief and injustice because there has been no punishment for this crime.

"They crossed into Republika Srpska and opened fire on everyone they encountered. They killed my two minor sons, aged seven and nine, and my wife, who was 39," Vukojević said in Novi Grad, where he attended a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the defense of the northwestern borders of Republika Srpska against Croatian aggression.

Jelena Dalmacija, whose mother Milena was killed in September 1995 when the Croatian Army shelled a refugee convoy in Blagaj near Novi Grad, said that the memory of the suffering should not be a call for hatred, but rather a warning that such events must never happen to anyone again.

"Refugee columns must never happen again, no child should be left without a parent, just as no family should ever have to feel the pain borne by the families of those who were killed," Dalmacija said in an address on behalf of the families of the victims.

She stressed that behind every person who was killed there was a life and a family whose heart remains empty to this day.

Dalmacija said that she was seven years old when her mother was killed, while her brother was nine.

"My mother held my brother’s and my hand until the final moment of her life, and that is something I remember. While all this was happening, my father was on the front line, believing that he was protecting his family," Dalmacija said.
