CAMBRIDGE, APRIL 3 /SRNA/ - The verdict handed down by a court in Paris against the Leader of the National Rally in the French National Assembly Marine Le Pen is part of a wider pattern in which an embattled liberal establishment tries to eliminate challengers to its monopoly on power, as evidenced by the unconstitutional Court of BiH's verdict against the Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, said the professor at the Cambridge University Timothy Less.
He told SRNA that the verdict against Le Pen is a democratic outrage and the politically-motivated abuse of the legal system to remove a politician who threatens a failing, unpopular and increasingly desperate liberal establishment.
According to Less, the proof of that is the ban on Marine Le Pen's participation in political life which is entirely unnecessary for justice to be served, and makes clear the real motives at work.
"The ban on Madame Le Pen is part of a wider pattern in which an embattled liberal establishment tries to eliminate challengers to its monopoly on power. In the US, liberals used every device available to try and prevent Donald Trump from winning the presidency, from lawfare to attempts on his life.
In Romania, liberals cancelled the presidential election when the nationalist Calin Georgescu was set to win it; in BiH, Milorad Dodik has been banned from political life in a blatant misuse of the justice system, while in Germany, the establishment parties are trying to ban the AfD," Less pointed out.
He stated that all this makes him fearful for the future of democracy in the West which the liberal establishment seems willing to discard when it threatens its hold on power.
Less emphasized that it is for the people, not unelected judges or their political backers to decide whether a politician is fit for office.
According to Less, the irony is that liberals claim to be upholding democracy, even as they actively subvert it.
"Sadly, it seems that, at the start of the 21st century, true liberal democrats - that is, those who really believe in the rule of law and democratic process – will have to fight all over again to establish these principles as the foundation for political life," Less concluded.
