ST. PETERSBURG, MAY 30 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska will continue to receive Russian gas at the most favorable prices, and Russia has shown interest in investing in gas power plants, said the General Director of "Sarajevo-gas" from Istočno Sarajevo, Nedeljko Elek, after a meeting with the leadership of the Russian company "Gazprom" in St. Petersburg.

Elek clarified that the contract is no longer in question and will be a long-term one, and that the leadership of "Gazprom" expressed great interest in the gasification project of Republika Srpska.

"They expressed interest in further gas supply, because we will reach over a billion cubic meters annually, and then we will become a serious partner not only to 'Gazprom' but to other gas companies as well," Elek told media from Republika Srpska in St. Petersburg.

Elek, who was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska, Petar Đokić, said that all the works that will be carried out in the field of gasification in both the west and east of Republika Srpska were presented at the meeting.

"I want to congratulate the citizens of the Federation of BiH as well, and send my greetings from here in St. Petersburg. Federal Sarajevo will receive cheaper Russian gas next year too," Elek stated.

According to Elek, the leadership of "Gazprom" expressed interest in investing in gas power plants, and the Russians were presented with all the locations and opportunities available.

"Gas heating plants are also interesting to them, especially for large cities like Banja Luka, Bijeljina, and Doboj," said Elek.

Elek pointed out that the gas pipeline opens up many new opportunities.

"The construction deadline is four years. We will launch it section by section, so next year we will already be discussing the topics of Bijeljina and Doboj. By the time all of this is finished, I hope this madness in Europe will end, and we will return to the starting point where the economy was the key to everything, rather than ideology and politics," concluded Elek.
