NOVI GRAD, DECEMBER 12 /SRNA/ — The Mayor of Novi Grad Miroslav Drljača said that Croatia clearly will not voluntarily abandon its plans to build a radioactive waste storage facility at the Trgovska Gora site, noting that a possible solution may also involve legal proceedings.

Drljača told SRNA that it is almost certain the Croatian Parliament will support the draft law on constructing a center for the disposal of radioactive waste at Trgovska Gora, located on the border with BiH, which was debated yesterday.

"It is obvious that Croatia will not give up voluntarily. For Novi Grad, Republika Srpska, and BiH, the only places where a solution to this problem can be sought are the ESPOO Convention Committee or a court process," Drljača stressed.

According to him, it is frustrating how far Croatia has advanced its plans while bypassing laws and international conventions.

Croatia intends to store radioactive waste from the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, as well as existing institutional waste, at the Trgovska Gora location, in immediate proximity to the border with BiH.
