BILEĆA, JUNE 20 /SRNA/ – Minister of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska Petar Đokić has announced today in Bileća that the construction of a new Bileća hydropower plant is planned in the coming period, and stressed that the municipality of Gacko should also develop new energy facilities.
“The municipality of Bileća implemented major and historic investments in the energy sector over the past ten years, with around BAM 140 million invested in several energy projects, “ Đokić told the press.
He noted that the Dabar hydropower plantm currently under construction in the municipalities of Bileća, Nevesinje, and Berkovići, is in its final year of construction and is expected to be completed next year, if no unforeseen circumstances arise.
Đokić also announced several initiatives for the construction of new large solar power plants in Bileća.
Đokić added that the municipality of Gacko should also develop new energy facilities, as the Gacko Thermal Power Plant is 42 years old and will eventually have to cease operations in more than 25 years, although plans for a new thermal unit in Gacko have not been abandoned.
He recalled that in the past 11 years, BAM 2.8 billion has been invested in the power industry in Republika Srpska, which is more than even many larger countries in the region have managed to invest.
