BANJA LUKA, MAY 9 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska, Petar Đokić, said today in Banja Luka that the heroes who gave their lives in the fight against fascism and for the freedom of states and peoples must not be forgotten.
"A huge price was paid for freedom. Our ancestors, through immeasurable sacrifice, created a more just and better world," Đokić said at the marking of May 9 — Victory Day.
He reminded that around 1.7 million people were killed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia during World War II, the majority of whom were Serbs.
"The anti-fascist movement from this region became one of the most massive in Europe. I am glad that Victory Day is being marked in Republika Srpska," Đokić added.
He stated that Republika Srpska is committed to life in freedom, peace, and equality.
"We want to achieve good results, to preserve peace and freedom. We pass on the idea of freedom, peace, and anti-fascism to new generations, which is very important," Đokić said.
