BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik today congratulated the citizens of Srpska and Serbia on their shared holiday – the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag, emphasizing that September 15 symbolizes Serbs' heroism, suffering, and pain, but also the call for freedom that led to the breakthrough of the Salonika Front.
Dodik said that this date is dedicated to the great feat of Serb soldiers – the breakthrough of the Salonika Front at a place that was both martyrdom and sacred for the freedom of the Serb people, who survived the Golgotha of World War I.
He pointed out that at that time, the Serbian army brought freedom to Serbia, BiH, but to other nations as well.
"We celebrate other holidays together with Serbia, but this is a shared holiday based on the decisions of our governments. We are a united people, we are neither Bosnian nor any other's. We are Serbs who, united, form the whole of an invincible people, but also a martyred people," Dodik told the press in Banja Luka.
The governments of Republika Srpska and Serbia decided to jointly celebrate the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag on September 15.
The celebration of this holiday was established in 2020 with the goal of strengthening unity between the Serb people in Serbia and Srpska, as well as promoting the cult of the national flag. It is celebrated in remembrance of the breakthrough of the Salonika Front in World War I.
