DODIK AND ADŽIĆ WELCOME DRAGOSLAV ŠINIK AFTER 28-DAY HUMANITARIAN ROW FROM BELGRADE TO GRADIŠKA

GRADIŠKA, SEPTEMBER 20 /SRNA/ – Dragoslav Šinik, president of the Gradiška Association for Assistance to People with Intellectual Disabilities, arrived in Gradiška on Sunday after spending 28 days rowing upstream along the Sava River from Belgrade in a wooden boat.

On the final leg, from Mačkovac to Gašnica, after covering 466 kilometers, Šinik was welcomed beneath the old Sava bridge in Gradiška by friends, President Milorad Dodik, Mayor Zoran Adžić and numerous citizens.

Šinik reminded that he had undertaken the challenge to draw attention to the needs of the people represented by his association. During the journey, he also distributed invitations for the seventh International Gathering of Children and Youth with Developmental Disabilities, titled "We Are All Part of You," which will be held from June 18 to 20 next year in Gašnica near Gradiška.

He added that another goal of the humanitarian campaign was to raise funds for a new van to transport children with developmental disabilities. Šinik thanked Dodik, who promised that funds for the vehicle would be provided through the Office of the President of Republika Srpska.

The humanitarian number 1434 will remain active until September 30, while slightly more than BAM 72,000 is needed to purchase the van.

Dodik thanked Šinik for everything he does for children with developmental disabilities, adding that they had previously worked together on similar humanitarian initiatives.

He said he would continue supporting Šinik's association both personally and through his influence, as well as next year's International Gathering of Children and Youth with Developmental Disabilities, "We Are All Part of You."

Gradiška Mayor Zoran Adžić thanked everyone who supported Šinik's campaign and said the city had supported, and would continue to support, the activities of the Association for Assistance to People with Intellectual Disabilities.

Šinik began his journey on August 25, setting out to row 478 kilometers upstream from Belgrade to the recreation area at Gašnica near Gradiška.
