TREBINJE, JANUARY 16 /SRNA/ – A memorial service was held in Trebinje today marking 31 years since the death of the youngest soldier of the Trebinje Brigade of the Army of Republika Srpska Aleksandar Masleša, and on this occasion, it was emphasized that his deed should be spoken of everywhere.

Former comrade-in-arms Zdravko Kovač from the Boban Company said that for 31 years they have been remembering not only Masleša, but all fallen comrades, with special emphasis on him as the youngest member of the unit.

President of the Assembly of the City Veterans’ Organization Petar Vuković stressed that the deed of the young Masleša should serve as an example to all people who love Republika Srpska.

"His deed should be spoken of by shepherds with their flocks, by parents with their children, by professors and teachers with their pupils, and officials of Republika Srpska should mention such people in every address. If we do not mention and value their deeds, their sacrifice will be in vain," Vuković told reporters.

Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić emphasized that the fighters who gave their lives for Republika Srpska must never be forgotten.

He noted that the City Administration, through the construction of a monument to Masleša and a sports complex bearing his name, has made its modest contribution, with the aim that future generations, especially children, do not forget the fighters and their families and treat them with respect.

"Aleksandar Masleša was born in 1976, people of that age are still young today. Imagine how many years ago he gave his life for Republika Srpska. We should be proud of all these people and be at the service of their families," Ćurić said.

Flowers were laid today at the monument to Aleksandar Masleša by his family, comrades-in-arms, and a delegation of the Trebinje City Administration, among others.

Aleksandar Masleša was wounded on September 27, 1994, at Boračko Lake near Konjic. The same shell killed the commander of the Boban Company, Duke Nedeljko Vidaković, as well as his comrades Ljubiša Popović and Dragan Slijepčević, while Masleša was seriously wounded.

He died from his injuries on this day in 1995 at the Military Medical Academy /VMA/ in Belgrade.

The small sports stadium in Trebinje bears the name of the youngest soldier of the Trebinje Brigade.
