DAY-LONG BATTLE WITH THE FIRE, A HELICOPTER ARRIVES TO ASSIST

TREBINJE, AUGUST 5 /SRNA/ - Trebinje firefighters battled the blaze all day today in the area of Dživarsko poljice, where residential buildings are not threatened, and a helicopter from the Aviation Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska has arrived to help, the commander of the Trebinje firefighters, Dejan Kašiković, told SRNA.

He said that they expect the helicopter to help them extinguish the fire in that area, which encompasses several villages.

"Today, due to the fire, a minefield was also activated in that inaccessible area, and firefighters did not approach it, but detonations from leftover mines were heard," Kašiković pointed out.

Members of the Trebinje Territorial Fire and Rescue Unit, he stated, have been in the field day and night for five days now and remain deployed in full capacity.

Kašiković added that the firefighters also went on foot to extinguish the fire using backpack extinguishers because the terrain is inaccessible, which makes firefighting efforts more difficult.

The Trebinje firefighters are also being assisted by members of the "Lastva" Voluntary Fire Department and local residents.

Kašiković expressed his gratitude to the Mayor of Trebinje, Mirko Ćurić, and the Trebinje City Administration, as well as the MoI's Aviation Administration, for their selfless support in their work and coordination in saving human lives and material goods.
