CVIJANOVIĆ: ROLE OF HIGH REPRESENTATIVES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOLISHED LONG AGO

BANJA LUKA, JUNE 17 /SRNA/ – SNSD Vice President Željka Cvijanović has stated today in Banja Luka that the role of High Representatives in BiH should have been abolished long ago, particularly the so-called Bonn Powers.

"The Peace Implementation Council /PIC/ should not exist either, as it is not grounded in any formal decision or in the Dayton Peace Accords", Cvijanović said at a press conference.

She stressed it is remarkable that, 30 years after the establishment of what she described as a structure that imposes decisions, debate continues over whether the Office of the High Representative /OHR/ and the High Representative should still exist.

"The only way for BiH to function sustainably is to remove such mechanisms from political life and especially from the institutional framework of the country. I could accept a High Representative who returns to the original mandate defined by Annex 10 of the Dayton Peace Accords, and nothing beyond that", Cvijanović said.
