BANJA LUKA, MAY 28 /SRNA/ - Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović welcomed the balanced approach that the new US administration is showing towards BiH, which distances it from the imposition of externally designed "ready-made" solutions, which is exactly what Republika Srpska has consistently advocated for.
In her address at the European Summit on Economy and Security in Banja Luka, Cvijanović pointed out that the new US approach brings many positive changes, because it represents a completely different political dynamic, abandoning outdated approaches and routines.
"Specifically, it moves away from imposing externally designed `ready-made` solutions on BiH, and instead emphasizes sustainable, compromise-based solutions reached by its constituent peoples themselves. This is precisely the path that the Republika Srpska has consistently supported and advocated for," Cvijanović stressed.
She stressed that it should be frankly acknowledged that this new approach represents an unexpected change and challenge for many in BiH, especially for those who have developed a strong reliance on external interventions to achieve their political ambitions and who, as a result, have avoided genuine internal dialogue.
"It is also true that this new US approach came as a surprise to many within the EU. Nevertheless, I believe it marks the most important step towards establishing genuine democracy and a constitutional order in BiH," she said.
Cvijanović noted that Republika Srpska is in a complex country with a very complicated political environment, and that over the past 30 years of the post-war period, it has faced numerous problems, misunderstandings and challenges.
"Yet, we are encouraged to see certain improvements. It is no secret that we welcome the balanced approach demonstrated by the new US administration toward all three constituent peoples and the two entities of BiH - one of which is the Republika Srpska, accounting for 49 per cent of BiH's territory," she said.
Cvijanović said that these developments are of great importance, as they open the door to constructive partnerships in the political, economic and security spheres.
"For the first time, the US government, along with American companies and investors, has expressed readiness to engage in large-scale development projects - particularly in the fields of energy, transport infrastructure, and information and communication technologies," she pointed out.
