TREBINJE, MAY 20 /SRNA/ - Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić today hosted Ljubo Mitrović, one of the oldest residents of Trebinje, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday.
Ćurić wished Mitrović good health and hoped his life wisdom would continue to support and bring joy to his family and friends.
He also said that one of the oldest citizens of Trebinje could still be seen walking the city streets alone or with his son.
“I’m glad that he is still very active, enjoys life, and that he spends his advanced years, which have their charm and beauty, in his hometown, Trebinje, with his son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from Canada,” Ćurić said.
Mitrović says he has no secret to longevity and that throughout his life, he has experienced various situations, some filled with beauty and joy, others with difficult moments, but that all of them have shaped his strength and spirit.
“For those of us who have reached such an old age, they say we didn’t have stress, but looking at myself, I can say I had quite a lot of it,” Mitrović said, adding that as a young man during World War II, he left his family home and went to the front.
He recounted that after the war, he found employment and completed his university studies, and that at the time, he was among the few who held an engineering degree.
During his long career, he was involved in numerous construction projects, including building railways, railway stations, and hydro power plants. He also managed the construction of four air bases in Kuwait and Iraq.
“Due to the war circumstances during the 1990s, I left Sarajevo, the city where I spent a significant part of my life, and returned to my hometown, Trebinje,” Mitrović said.
He added that he sees his life as fruitful because everything he did was directed towards the progress of society and the well-being of the individual.
Mitrović was born in the village of Lušnice, in Bobani, in 1925. He is the author of the book "Bobani – Then and Now."
