ISTOČNO NOVO SARAJEVO, MARCH 16 /SRNA/ - The Mayor of Istočno Sarajevo Ljubiša Ćosić said this evening that the memory of the exodus of the Serbs of Sarajevo should be passed on forever to future generations, who must know what it means to make a double sacrifice for Republika Srpska.
Ćosić said that today marks 30 years since the last Serb left the Sarajevo Field area - a centuries-old Serbian space that became part of the Federation of BiH, adding that the exodus of the Serbs from Sarajevo represents the greatest migration of a people for the sake of freedom called Republika Srpska.
"Out of 64 local communities, Serbs from Sarajevo live in at least 50 of them, and they have not set any of them back but rather improved them," Ćosić emphasized at the spiritual academy marking 30 years since the Sarajevo exodus.
He said that Istočno Sarajevo is today a stable place to live, adding that the municipalities within it now look much better than they did 30 years ago.
According to him, at that moment in history when every nation wanted to have its own state, the Serbs were not allowed to have one.
"We are here where we have belonged for centuries, and that place is now Istočno Sarajevo," Ćosić said, adding that the Serbs are a people who wish no harm to anyone.
