ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, MAY 23 /SRNA/ - Cooperation between the oldest theatre in Serbia and the youngest theatre in Republika Srpska was formalized on Saturday with the signing of an agreement between the National Theatre of Istočno Sarajevo and the Princely Serbian Theatre from Kragujevac.
Director of the Princely Serbian Theatre, Aleksandar Štajn, said that the cooperation will take place in several areas, primarily through the exchange of plays and joint projects.
“The repertoire of the young but ambitious theatre from Istočno Sarajevo deserves to be presented to the audience in Kragujevac as well, and we will gladly be guests here and present our work,” Štajn said.
He added that joint workshops are also planned, as well as the exchange of experience and knowledge between the two theatres.
According to him, there is a possibility that the Kragujevac theatre could perform in Istočno Sarajevo as early as December with the play “Alone with Everyone.”
He invited the National Theatre of Istočno Sarajevo to participate in the “Joakimovi Dani” and “Joakim Fest” festivals, which feature theatre companies from the region and across Europe.
Štajn reminded that the Princely Serbian Theatre is the oldest theatre in Serbia, which marked its 190th anniversary last year.
“I believe we can be true friends of this theatre house and work together on the development of culture,” Štajn said.
Director of the National Theatre of Istočno Sarajevo, Jelena Krstić, said that they will exchange everything that connects them.
“The most important thing is that we support each other, both as hosts and as friends in creating plays and participating in festivals,” Krstić said.
The Princely Serbian Theatre has already established cooperation with theatres in BiH, including theatres from Zenica, Tuzla, Banja Luka, Prijedor, and Mostar.
