PALE, JUNE 7 /SRNA/ – Special police brigades, together with the Republika Srpska Army, were the spearhead in the defence of the Serb people, particularly in the Sarajevo-Romanija region, where the Jahorina Detachment had a special role, Željko Budimir, the Interior Minister, has said today in Pale.
Following a memorial service for fallen members of the First Detachment of the MoI’s Jahorina Special Police Brigade, held at the Church of Saint Archangel Gabriel, Budimir stated that the detachment was a frontline unit that spared no effort in the creation of Republika Srpska.
“It is important to note that the unit also provided security for the most senior figures of the Republika Srpska leadership at the time, from the president onward, including the Republika Srpska Government itself,” Budimir told the press.
He recalled that the detachment also distinguished itself through operations against sabotage units that penetrated deep into Serb-controlled territory and successfully dealt with such threats.
Budimir emphasized that he supports events commemorating the Defensive-Patriotic War period, especially those marking the anniversaries of special detachments that were part of the Special Police Brigade.
He also thanked Savo Minić for supporting such commemorative events.
“I would also like to thank the Ministry of Interior for its support, particularly regarding the reception of children and families of fallen soldiers and assistance to families where even the grandchildren of the fallen are now participating,” Budimir said.
The memorial service was attended by Prime Minister Minić and Minister of Scientific and Technological Developent and Higher Education Draga Mastilović.
