BANJA LUKA, MAY 13 /SRNA/ – In the fight against fascism, the Russian and Serb peoples were on the right side of history, which is why there was no doubt that the delegation of Republika Srpska, headed by President Milorad Dodik, should be in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, Željko Budimir, the minister for scientific and technological development and higher education of Republika Srpska, stated in a SRNA statement.
Budimir emphasized that both the Serb and Russian peoples suffered greatly during World War II, but ultimately emerged victorious.
He added that the majority of military operations during World War II took place on the territory of present-day Republika Srpska or BiH, which, in his view, highlights the importance of the Republika Srpska delegation’s trip to Moscow.
Budimir noted that during the visit to Moscow, the Srpska delegation held a number of successful meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other world leaders and officials.
"This diplomatic engagement was completely successful. When it comes to the Eurasian region, the visibility of Republika Srpska is now at a level where President Dodik is recognized as a key figure from Brazil to China and Vietnam," Budimir stated.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik attended the Victory Day celebration in Moscow on May 9.
Victory Day is commemorated in memory of May 9, 1945, when the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany came into effect, marking the end of World War II in Europe.
The Serb people were among the leading forces in the fight against fascism in the former Yugoslavia and suffered the heaviest losses, while the Soviet Union made the greatest contribution to the defeat of fascism.
