BIJELJINA, MAY 9 /SRNA/ - On May 10, 2001, the Yugoslav Parliament ratified the Agreement on Special and Parallel Ties between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Republika Srpska.
The need for this agreement arose following the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia /SFRY/, as the citizens of Republika Srpska wished to remain in a union with the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
This agreement was signed to develop cooperation between Republika Srpska and Serbia in areas such as the economy and use of economic resources, planning, privatization and denationalization, science and technology, education, culture and sports, healthcare and social policy, tourism and environmental protection, information, protection of civil liberties and rights, as well as combating crime.
Today, citizens of Republika Srpska and Serbia /as the successor to the FR Yugoslavia/ enjoy a range of benefits from this agreement in their daily lives, especially in areas such as freedom of movement, culture, education, economy, and infrastructure.
