PRNJAVOR, JUNE 22 /SRNA/ – In Donji Vijačani near Prnjavor, the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the Second Battalion of the Prnjavor Light Infantry Brigade and its deployment in the 1992 Corridor breakthrough was marked today.
The wartime commander of the Prnjavor Light Infantry Brigade, Vlado Živković, reminded that the brigade served on numerous battlefields where it earned renown for its soldiers, without a single blemish in its military record.
He reminded that on June 7, 1992, in Donji Vijačani, the Prnjavor Brigade formed its Second Battalion, which the very next day, together with units of the Republika Srpska Army, Republika Srpska Krajina, and the "Wolves from Vučijak", took part in the liberation of Cer.
“After that, the Second Battalion was sent to Rudanka, then to Duge Njive and the Corridor breakthrough, which also involved the First and Third Battalions. Soldiers from Prnjavor also participated in breaking through the perimeter canal near Brod, and in Sijekovac, we encountered horrifying scenes of tortured and then executed people,” Živković stated.
Prnjavor’s soldiers also fought on the Teslić, Doboj, Brčko, Benkovac, Novigrad, and Ozren fronts.
“On the Ozren front, we experienced the most difficult battles over the span of a year – we effectively kept the Zenica Corps under control. Unfortunately, it was there that the Prnjavor Brigade suffered its heaviest losses, with 132 soldiers killed,” Živković emphasized.
