33rd ANNIVERSARY OF FORMATION OF "PANTHERS" GUARD MARKED

BIJELJINA, MAY 2 /SRNA/ - The 33rd anniversary of the formation of the elite unit of the Republika Srpska Army /RSA/, the "Panthers" Guard, was marked today in Bijeljina.

This elite unit fought on all battlefronts across Republika Srpska - 101 of its members lost their lives and 858 were wounded in defense of the Republic.

Petar Cvijetinović, president of the "Panthers Guard" Veterans Association, which organized the commemoration, told reporters that this intervention unit, which fought from Novi Grad to Trnovo, was awarded the Order of the Karađorđe Star, First Class, and the Order of Nemanjić.

Bojan Savić, the son of Ljubiša Savić Mauzer, the founder and commander of this elite RSA unit, said that the members of the Guard demonstrated great courage, integrity, and determination, and that they fought for values that remain important for the future.

"Even today, we are fighting for the same cause under different circumstances. If we do not remain united and stand in defense of our institutions, everything they did during the war will be in vain," Savić said.

Radan Ostojić, president of the Republika Srpska Veterans’ Organization, emphasized that this renowned unit left a lasting legacy through its heroism and sacrifice and brought honor to the name of Bijeljina.

He believes that, after many experiences from the wars of the past century, the struggle for freedom and the great sacrifice, the Serbian people will recognize the formula for the survival of Republika Srpska.
