BANJA LUKA, JULY 3 /SRNA/ - During the first five months of this year, 186,698 tourists visited Republika Srpska, generating 466,487 overnight stays, which is a 3.7% increase in arrivals and a 1.2% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year, the Republika Srpska Tourism Organization told SRNA.
“If we compare the number of overnight stays in the first five months of this year with the same period last year, mountain resorts remained at the same level as last year,” Sanela Šimun, the public relations associate at the Tourism Organization, told SRNA.
She added that spa towns recorded an increase of 3.5 percent, while other tourist destinations saw a rise of 0.9 percent.
“These are places that have attractive factors such as climate, cultural and historical heritage, as well as river and lake resorts,” Šimun said.
She also said that, on average, guests stayed for 2.5 days during the five months this year.
Šimun said that, as in previous years, apart from domestic tourists, the highest number of visits came from neighboring countries, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro, while among other countries, Turkey, Germany, Austria, China, and Italy stood out.
According to her, when it comes to the types of tourist destinations, domestic tourists spent the most nights in other tourist locations, followed by spa towns, mountain resorts, and places that don’t fit into any of these categories but have accommodation facilities.
“Foreign tourists recorded the highest number of overnight stays in spa towns, followed by other tourist destinations and mountain resorts,” Šimun said.
