Vesna Milić, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Istočno Sarajevo, told reporters ahead of the opening of the conference that Agrosim is being held with the aim of presenting scientific and professional achievements in agriculture and related sciences, exchanging experiences, and establishing links between scientific institutions and the economy.

Milić said that the scientific programme has been organized into seven thematic sections, with 200 papers to be presented orally, while the others will be presented in the poster section.

She said the topics cover crop and livestock production, plant protection, ecology, soil protection and irrigation, agroforestry and forestry, and robotics in agricultural production.

The plenary programme includes two keynote presentations by scientists from Italy and Serbia.

Milan Kulić, Rector of the University of Istočno Sarajevo, said that the symposium is one of the most important scientific conferences in the region and has been held for 17 years.

"This year, around 600 papers by authors from more than 80 countries worldwide have been presented, which is the best confirmation of the quality and international visibility of the conference, as well as of our university. Our strategic interest is to devote special attention to scientific research in addition to education, and this is reflected in the fact that the University of Istočno Sarajevo improves its position in international rankings every year," Kulić said.

He added that this is why the Faculty of Agriculture is an exceptionally important member of the University.

The participants will also be offered a music programme organized in cooperation with the Music Academy of the University of Istočno Sarajevo, as well as a professional and tourist excursion.

The symposium is being held at the Vučko Hotel and will run until Friday, October 9, while the accompanying programme includes an exhibition of handicrafts and organic products.
