SPLIT, SEPTEMBER 10 /SRNA/ - A 58-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a fire near Omiš has died at the Clinical Hospital Centre in Split.

Despite all intensive care measures and the efforts of doctors, the woman died from injuries sustained on August 13, the Split hospital said.

She is the third victim of the fire that swept through the Omiš area in August. A BiH national was killed in the fire, while a man died several days later from injuries he sustained.

Two other patients who remain in critical condition are still receiving intensive care, Croatian media reported.

More than 40 people were injured in the devastating fire in the Omiš area. Most suffered breathing problems due to the thick smoke, and several sustained severe burns and were transferred to intensive care units in Split and Zagreb.

The fire broke out overnight in Lokva Rogoznica and quickly spread towards the settlements of Mimice, Medići, Stanići and Nemira, as well as the outskirts of Omiš, due to strong winds. More than 2,000 residents and tourists were evacuated.

Earlier, Split-Dalmatia County Prefect Blaženko Boban declared a natural disaster due to the fire, which, according to initial estimates, caused damage of around 110 million euros.
