BELGRADE, AUGUST 18 /SRNA/ - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that General Ratko Mladić is de facto on his deathbed and that he does not understand the inhumane principles behind the decision by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague /Mechanism/ not to allow him to be released to Serbia.

Vučić said that the Mechanism's behavior shows that the kind of civilization the West had spoken about for so many decades does not exist there.

"Whether he has one week or five weeks left makes no difference. They could have done what they did with /Nebojša/ Pavković, literally waiting until he was two weeks from death before allowing him to return home, at least to die in the country where he had lived and for which he had fought. I do not understand these principles, why they behave this way and why they do this," Vučić said, commenting on a statement by Darko Mladić, General Ratko Mladić's son, that the family feared the general had suffered another stroke in The Hague.

He pointed out that this has nothing to do with the Hague verdicts or with anyone's opinion of General Mladić, but solely with treating a human being humanely.
