BELGRADE, APRIL 23 /SRNA/ - The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said that he has been informed about the health condition of General Ratko Mladić, which is very poor, and that he does not understand why he is not allowed to spend his final days outside a prison cell.

Vučić told reporters that he spoke with Serbia's Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić, who visited the Serbian general in the detention hospital in The Hague, and that Vujić informed him about Mladić’s health condition.

He said that Vujić told him the general was brought in on the bed he was lying on, that he was unable to sit, and that he answered questions in the shortest possible manner.

"He told me that Mladić is in very poor condition. I don't understand people; why would they not allow someone to spend their final days outside a prison cell? But am I particularly surprised? I am not," Vučić said, responding to a question from SRNA.

The general's son, Darko Mladić, previously told SRNA that Mladić is on his deathbed in the detention hospital in The Hague.

General Ratko Mladić has suffered multiple strokes and has serious cardiovascular conditions, high blood pressure, neurological damage, and kidney problems. He has been hospitalized on several occasions and subjected to various medical and therapeutic procedures, including surgical interventions on the heart and leg.

The former Chief of the General Staff of the Republika Srpska Army, General Ratko Mladić, has been in the detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he is receiving palliative care due to his severe health condition.
