BELGRADE, OCTOBER 7 /SRNA/ - The National Bank of Serbia /NBS/ and Viber have enabled users to send money or request payments directly from a chat using a phone number from their contacts.
Aleksandar Stanojević, head of the Department for Business Support and Development of New Products and Services in the NBS Payment System Sector, said the money transfer process was fully secure and that transactions could now be completed through a mobile banking app and Viber, both of which must be installed on the phone.
According to Stanojević, Viber automatically redirects the user to the mobile banking app, which contains all the transaction details before the user confirms the payment with the bank.
"The recipient must have a bank account and be registered for the money transfer service. They do not need to have a mobile banking app, but they must have an account because the transfer itself takes place in the background from the payer’s account to the recipient's account," Stanojević said, RTS reported.
He added that Viber users had not yet received a notification about the new feature because it had not yet been marketed, which he said was a business decision by the company, although the service was already available.
