STUDENT KILLS TEACHER AT SCHOOL

BRATISLAVA, SEPTEMBER 29 /SRNA/ - A student killed a teacher at a school in northwestern Slovakia, JOJ television reported.

The broadcaster had earlier reported that a student attacked classmates and a teacher with a sharp object at an elementary school in the town of Staškov in the Žilina region.

Regional police spokeswoman Daniela Kockova told the Noviny news portal that two other people were injured in the attack, which took place early this morning.

She added that one of the injured was a teacher who was in critical condition and had been taken to hospital.

The portal reported that classes at the school had been suspended.

According to initial information, the attacker was an eighth-grade student being raised by his grandmother.

Petra Klimešova, spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Service Operations Center, said two ambulances and two rescue helicopters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Police confirmed that the incident was being investigated as a violent crime.

Police said the situation was under control and that no one was in immediate danger at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
