STEFAN DEČANSKI DEFEATED ARMY OF BULGARIAN TSAR

BIJELJINA, JULY 27 /SRNA/ - On July 28, 1330, near Velbazhd, the future Serbian King Stefan Dečanski defeated the army of the Bulgarian Tsar Michael Shishman.

In doing so, Dečanski thwarted Shishman's agreement with the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos III Palaiologos for Bulgaria and Byzantium to jointly attack Serbia and end its military supremacy on the Balkan Peninsula.

Stefan Uroš III Nemanjić, better known as Stefan Dečanski, was a King of Serbia from the Nemanjić dynasty, the son of King Milutin and the father of the Serbian Emperor Stefan Dušan.

This Serbian ruler married the Bulgarian Princess Theodora, with whom he had sons Dušan and Dušica Dušman, and a daughter, Jelača Jelka.

In his second marriage, to the Byzantine Princess Maria Palaiologina, King Stefan Dečanski had at least two children, Emperor Simeon Siniša and Teodora.
