SIX PEOPLE DETAINED AFTER SEARCHES IN STRMAC

BELGRADE, AUGUST 14 /SRNA/ - Police of self-proclaimed Kosovo today searched houses and other properties owned by Serbs in the village of Strmac near Zubin Potok and detained six people.

Veton Elshani, deputy police commander for the northern region, said that the detainees were being questioned at a police station.

He claimed that weapons had been found during the searches, but did not specify the quantity or type of weapons, Belgrade media reported.

In recent days, a large number of police searches have been carried out in the Ibar Kolašin area, also "on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons."

Searches were conducted yesterday in the villages of Oklace and Dren, during which two Serbs were detained and later released.

In the village of Dren, members of the police of self-proclaimed Kosovo abused and beat Nenad Rašković, who is being treated for his injuries and serious overall health condition at the Emergency Centre of the Clinical Centre of Serbia in Belgrade.

Searches had previously also been carried out in the villages of Kaludra, Jabuka and Prevlaka.
