BELGRADE, OCTOBER 22 /SRNA/ – Serbs suffered the largest genocide of any European people in the 20th century, and genocide against Slavic peoples continues today, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said.
Speaking at the opening of the scientific conference Genocide Against Slavic Peoples in the 20th Century at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Belgrade, Botsan-Kharchenko reminded that the first concentration camps were established specifically for Slavic peoples.
He said it was easy to prove that Serbs were the greatest victims of genocide, but argued that the facts were being distorted, as what he called the collective West was now trying to impose the supposedly paradoxical narrative that Serbs were "genocidal."
He said genocide against Slavic peoples had begun well before the 20th century and continued today, citing the long-suffering people of Donbas as sufficient evidence.
The Russian ambassador noted that genocides against other peoples were discussed, while the issue of what he described as the prolonged, systematic and uninterrupted genocide against Slavs remained sidelined as an unwelcome topic.
The conference also heard that a rehabilitation of "minor forms of Nazism" was currently underway in many European countries.
