NOVI SAD, JUNE 7 /SRNA/ - On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Herzegovina Uprising – the Nevesinje Rifle, Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković told children at a public class in Novi Sad that anyone who tells them history is not important is lying, because history is identity and the culture of remembrance is the foundation of every nation.
Addressing elementary school students from Serbia, Republika Srpska, and Montenegro yesterday, Selaković emphasized that this anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on shared history and build stronger ties among Serbs, according to a statement from the Serbian Ministry of Culture.
He emphasized that the Nevesinje Rifle did not awaken only Herzegovina, but the entire Serbian people, and called for unity and harmony in nurturing cultural and national identity.
Selaković stated that the commemoration of this important anniversary will include promotions, film and cultural content, specifically the premiere of a feature-documentary film on July 5 in Nevesinje, a celebration on July 6, and a central ceremony with a formal academy in Belgrade on September 15, the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom, and the National Flag.
Selaković emphasized the role of youth in preserving cultural identity, calling on them to become familiar with the historical, cultural, and moral heritage of the Serbian people, measured in centuries, saints, heroes, and freedom, the highest value cherished by the Serbian nation and fought for since its very beginnings.
Speaking about the culture of remembrance, Selaković emphasized that it is not merely a historical narrative, but encompasses everything that is created, and that this is what distinguishes the Serbian people among other Slavic and Orthodox nations.
