BIJELJINA, JULY 12 /SRNA/ – The Congress of Berlin, which revised the Treaty of San Stefano concluded after the Russia-Turkish War, ended on July 13, 1878.

Under the decisions of the Congress of Berlin, Serbia was awarded the districts of Niš, Pirot, Toplica and Vranje, while Montenegro gained the towns of Nikšić, Podgorica, Kolašin, Bar and Ulcinj.

Austria-Hungary was granted the right to occupy and administer the territory that is today BiH, which had been under Ottoman rule for centuries, and to maintain a garrison in the Raška region /the Sanjak of Novi Pazar, under the Ottoman administrative division/.

Great Britain was authorized to occupy Cyprus.

The Caucasus was awarded to Russia, and Romania became independent.
