REQUEST FOR GENERAL MLADIĆ’S RELEASE FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT TO BE FILED SOON

BELGRADE, APRIL 23 /SRNA/ – Reports by Serbian doctors who recently examined General Ratko Mladić in the detention hospital in The Hague have been completed, and a submission requesting his release for treatment in Serbia will be filed with the Mechanism in the coming hours, the general’s son Darko said.

"The submission is being drafted and will be filed within the next few hours," Darko said, adding that it will be submitted electronically.

He noted that the health condition of General Mladić, who suffered a stroke on April 10, remains unchanged, and that his wife Bosiljka visited him today.

Republika Srpska’s Minister of Justice Goran Selak stated that both Srpska and Serbia are ready to provide guarantees should approval be granted for General Mladić to continue treatment in his home country.

General Ratko Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10, and his already serious condition has further deteriorated, as he has severe neurological, cardiovascular, and renal problems.

He has been in the prison hospital for a full two years, has been bedridden for the past year and a half, while the Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague has refused to grant him temporary release for treatment.

The former commander of the Republika Srpska Army’s Main Staff General Ratko Mladi has been in the detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he is under palliative care due to his serious health condition.

General Mladić was arrested on May 26, 2011, in the village of Lazarevo near Zrenjanin, Serbia.

The Hague Tribunal sentenced him to life imprisonment on November 22, 2017, and the verdict was upheld on June 8, 2021, for alleged war crimes during the 1992 – 1995 war in BiH.
