POLICE SEIZE 50 KILOGRAMS OF MARIJUANA IN OBRENOVAC

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 26 /SRNA/ - Police in Obrenovac, near Belgrade, seized 50 kilograms of marijuana and arrested two people, the Serbian Interior Ministry said.

During a search of an apartment and other premises in Obrenovac used by the suspects, police found and seized several plastic packages containing about 50 kilograms of marijuana.

Serbia's caretaker Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said the operation was carried out on the orders of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.

He added that two people, identified by the initials L.J. and D.K., were arrested on suspicion of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.

The suspects were ordered held for up to 48 hours, after which they will be brought before the competent prosecutor's office along with a criminal complaint.

"Every drug seizure is an important victory in the fight for safer streets and the protection of our citizens, and these 50 kilograms of marijuana mean that much less drugs will be available on the streets," Dačić said.
