BELGRADE, DECEMBER 13 /SRNA/ – The Central Election Commission /CEC/ in Priština has politicized the electoral process and there are absolutely no legal grounds for banning the Serb List or any of its candidates, said Danijela Nikolić, the chair of the for Kosovo and Metohija Committee in the Serbia’s National Assembly.
Commenting on the CEC’s refusal to certify the candidacy of the Serb List for the parliamentary elections in Kosovo and Metohija scheduled for December 28, Nikolić points out that this is happening for the third time and that the Serb List is being forced to go to the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel.
“All of this is being done because someone allowed Albin Kurti to do such a thing. He is trying to reap the fruits of his terror and inaction at the expense of the Serb List, just to force it to withdraw or to weaken it in any way,” Nikolić told RTS.
She adds the CEC has granted itself authorities that do not belong to it, calling it sheer arbitrariness, noting it is acting outside its office by even engaging in security assessments of candidates.
“It is not up to them to decide whether Igor Simić, Slavko Simić, or any of the 33 candidates for MPs are suitable,” Nikolić emphasized.
She assessed that the problems are being deliberately created because the authorities in Priština are bothered by the fact that the Serb List is the strongest Serb party in Kosovo and Metohija protecting national interests.
